Kenyan scriptwriter and actor Abel Mutua and his business partner Philip Karanja won big at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in Nigeria over the weekend.

The two through their Production Company PhilIt Productions won two awards for through their films Makosa Ni Yangu and Untying Kantai.

Makosa Ni Yangu won the award for Best Indigenous Language, East Africa while Untying Kantai – Best Writing, TV Series.

On his part Abel Mutua penned a detailed post reflecting on his journey in the film industry. He expressed his gratitude to his fans for always supporting his craft.

“Four years ago, thanks to your unwavering support, we started this film journey. These right here are the fruits of your labour. A true depiction of The Wakurugenzi Effect. 2 nominations both converted into wins. Our region’s flag is up high. Thank you very much @africamagic. Through you, Africa gets to know that The East has something to offer,” Abel Mutua said in part.

He went on to shout-out the cast and crew for Makosa Ni Yangu and Untying Kantai for flying the Kenyan flag high.

“For Untying Kantai I’d like to personally thank the Phil-It Think tank. You’re the reason the trophy is coming to Nairobi. My fellow writers @mercymutisya_ and @directorkenji. Your pen game is out of this world. @shigwanshiqo @dennismugooj your amazing ideas made the show what it became. @phil_director @michaelsmallzmunyoki and @directorkenji our super directors. Thank you for seeing the project through from the writing room to the screen. The entire cast and @philitproductions crew… You delivered exceptionally well. Barikiweni sana,” Abel Mutua added.

“For Makosa ni yangu I’m sending a massive shout out To the cast, your performances brought truth and soul to the screen. You carried this story with such grace and power that audiences across the continent felt every moment. @pambo_mel @pascaltokodi @miss_brenda_michelle @qamuyubeats @just_obra, The entire Support Cast and Extras, you mean a great deal to us. He added: “From sleepless nights to last-minute fixes, you showed what it means to be the backbone of greatness. This win is ours.
