President William Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki as his next Deputy President following the ouster of now-former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The nomination comes after a special meeting that was held at the State House on Friday, October 18, 2024.

Kindiki who currently serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration will need Parliament’s approval to take over as the new DP.

Kindiki’s wealth increased from 544 million to Sh694 million between October 2022 and August 2024

He is the current CS for Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.

He married Joyce Gatiiria Njagi in 2001. They have three children.

He is 52 years old.

Born in Irunduni village, Tharaka Nithi County.

Attended Irunduni Primary School.

Then Lenana School.

In 1998, he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Moi University, Kenya.

He also attended the Advocates’ Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Studies (Kenya School of Law, 2001).

Later Obtained a Master’s degree and a PhD from the University of Pretoria.

He taught law at Moi and Nairobi universities.

Occasionally served as a visiting lecturer abroad

Kindiki entered public service in 2008 when he was appointed Secretary for the National Cohesion and Reconciliation.

He resigned after three months, citing a lack of political will to resettle victims of the 2007 post-election violence.

Gained national prominence when Ruto appointed him to his legal team during the International Criminal Court (ICC) trial.

Win the Senate seat for Tharaka Nithi in 2013 under the TNA partyand served for two terms.

He served as Deputy Speaker of the Senate before he was impeached.

Kithure Kindiki and his 4 brothers are all professors, while their 4 sisters are at different stages of working on their PhDs.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula gazetted the approval of the nomination of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President by the House.

The House had earlier in the day approved the nomination of Kindiki, who is Interior Cabinet Secretary as the new Deputy President, a day after the Senate voted to impeach Rigathi Gachagua.
