A new event highlighting Kenya’s renowned running heritage and women’s resilience is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Ngong Road Forest Sanctuary in Miotoni Block (Section 1).
Enda’s program, The Great Walk, brings together women and their allies for a morning of fellowship, reflection, and exercise from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Great Walk, themed “Honouring Women’s Strength & Spirit,” is intended to not only strengthen Kenya’s global reputation in distance running but also to honor Catherine Ndereba’s enduring legacy.
Widely recognised as “Catherine the Great,” the celebrated athlete’s accomplishments—ranging from two World Championship titles and an Olympic silver medal to four Boston Marathon victories—have inspired generations of runners both in Kenya and around the world.
Speaking of the event, “Walking together reflects the strength of women in sports and life. This event honours those who have led the way while inspiring the next generation to embrace resilience and excellence. I’m proud to walk alongside Enda in this movement,”.
The event aims to foster connections among participants by creating a safe space for dialogue and celebration.
In addition to a collective walk, attendees can look forward to perks such as refreshments, exclusive merchandise, and the chance to meet Catherine Ndereba in person.

Organisers emphasise that the walk serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by female athletes, including those lost to gender-based violence, and is a call to support safe and empowering environments for women.
Looking toward the future
Beyond the walk, there are plans to expand the initiative into a larger marathon event—a long-term commitment to advancing Kenya’s influence in the world of running while driving social and economic impact.
This vision underscores the belief that community-driven events can play a pivotal role in promoting resilience, progress, and inclusivity in sports.
