Chimano enters new chapter in career with “Do You Remember”

Award-winning Kenyan singer and performer, Chimano, is back with a brand new single “Do You Remember” – his much-anticipated debut release of 2024.

The feel-good Afropop song produced by DTX carries a powerful message – affirming listeners to trust their journey and not pay attention to the pressures of the world.

Ahead of the release, Chimano shared, “Chimano as an individual is a new artist. Being part of Sauti Sol was the greatest privilege of my life, now I’m off on this amazing journey that I’m looking forward to,” confirming that “Do You Remember” is the first single and a lead up to a number of releases he plans to share with his fans this year.

From experimental sounds to truthfulness in writing, Chimano’s new singles will showcase a fun yet intricate character on an incredible journey of self-discovery.

Chimano adds, “I am starting a new journey and this song marks a transition from my previous music towards my new sound and expression. I also plan to release a complete body of work that fully expresses my love for the gift God has given me.”

“Do You Remember” is a powerful return for Chimano.

He expounds, “I felt it was necessary to take a break to help me focus, especially since there was a turning point in our lives following the Sauti Sol hiatus. The music group was all I knew career-wise, and we were always on the go, accomplishing so much. Acknowledging this has always filled me with immense gratitude. Now, I want to prepare myself for my new chapter as a solo artist.”

The new single is not just a product of a period of self reflection; but of importance for Chimano to remind himself, fans (chimandems) and all listeners to hold their heads high and keep strong through all pursuits and pressure points. It’s the beginning of a new chapter in Chimano’s career following the successful release of his debut solo EP ‘Heavy Is The Crown’ (2022). Willis Austin Chimano is a multi-talented Kenyan singer, songwriter and an eccentric performer, best known as a member of high-flying Kenyan music group, Sauti Sol.

The multi-faceted artist and fashion icon is also a creative director with a keen eye and vision for creating mind-blowing productions and concepts, be it in editorial photography, film, fashion or music videos.

Whether in fashion, music or art; individuality and identity is at the centre of Chimano’s expression.

His love for singing started by age 7 – 10, doing sing-alongs and recording radio pop music over his mother’s cassette tapes.

While in high school, he made friends with Bien-Aime and Savara. They all joined an a cappella singing music group called Voices in The Light.

After high school, the trio met Fancy Fingers at Alliance Française Nairobi to form Sauti Sol who would later become one of Africa’s most decorated and celebrated music groups.
