DP Gachagua’s impeachment hearing

The hearing of a special motion tabled on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has commenced.

The motion was tabled on Thursday last week by Kibwezi West MP Mutuse Mwengi.

The Deputy President is accused of 11 allegations including violation of the constitution, corruption and bullying.

Gachagua is also expected to appear before the National Assembly to respond to the allegations before a vote is taken.

Articles145 and 150 of the Constitution of Kenya say that, if the Motion is supported by 233 Members of the National Assembly, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula will send it to the speaker of the Senate within two days.

However, if the motion does not receive support of 233 Members, the matter will stand concluded.
