Ex-Arsenal Star Thomas Partey Charged with Five Counts of Rape and Sexual Assault

Former Arsenal and Ghana international footballer Thomas Partey has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police. The alleged offences, which span from 2021 to 2022, involve three separate women.

The police detailed that two counts of rape relate to one woman, three counts to a second woman, and the single count of sexual assault is connected to a third. The investigation first began in February 2022 after law enforcement received an initial report of rape.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized that the welfare of the complainants is central to their work.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” said Furphy. “We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk.”

Partey, 32, is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August.

The charges come shortly after the midfielder’s departure from Arsenal. His contract with the Premier League club officially ended on Monday. Partey had been with Arsenal since 2020, having joined from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in a high-profile £45.3 million transfer.

During his time at the Emirates, Partey made a total of 130 Premier League appearances, scoring nine goals. Last season alone, he featured in 35 league matches and scored four goals, playing a key role in helping Arsenal finish second in the Premier League. He also appeared in 12 Champions League matches, with the club reaching the semi-finals before being eliminated by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.
