Ex-CS Farida Karoney Tapped to Steer TV47’s Digital Transformation

Former Lands Cabinet Secretary Dr. Farida Karoney has taken on a new leadership role in the media industry as the Growth Strategy Consultant at Cape Media Limited, the parent company of TV47, Radio47, and TV47 Digital.

In her new position, Dr. Karoney is expected to lead strategic and policy reforms aimed at transforming Cape Media into a digital-first media powerhouse, while also boosting its competitiveness in the fast-changing media environment.

According to a statement from Cape Media, Dr. Karoney’s mandate includes spearheading innovation, strengthening the company’s brand presence, and diversifying its revenue streams to support long-term growth.

In her acceptance remarks, Dr. Karoney underscored the importance of resilience and digital innovation in shaping the future of media.

“The future of media lies in robust strategy, innovation, and digital transformation,” she noted, emphasizing her commitment to building a future-ready Cape Media brand.

Welcoming her appointment, Cape Media Limited Chairperson Prof. Simon Gicharu described the move as a significant step toward accelerating the company’s expansion.

“This appointment is a step in the right direction that will ensure TV47, Radio47, and their digital platforms sustain and accelerate their current growth trajectory,” said Prof. Gicharu.

Dr. Karoney joins Cape Media with a wealth of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. She previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning (2018–2022), where she oversaw transformative initiatives, including the digitization of land records and services.

Before joining government, Dr. Karoney held senior leadership positions in Kenya’s top media houses. She was the Chief Operating Officer and Editorial Director at Royal Media Services and has also worked with KTN, Nation Media Group, and Al Jazeera.

She holds a PhD in Business Administration (Strategy), an MBA in Strategic Management, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication.
