Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has spoken out strongly in defence of Marion Naipei Sinkeet, the woman who recently went viral on social media after a private video allegedly recorded without her consent was leaked online.

Mosiria says his decision to stand with Naipei is rooted in principle, conscience, and a firm belief in justice—not popularity.

In a statement shared publicly, Mosiria said he did not know Naipei personally but felt compelled to speak after what he described as a clear violation of her dignity and rights.

According to him, the secret recording and circulation of the video was cruel, degrading, and unlawful, and the focus of public outrage should be on the alleged perpetrator rather than the victim.

“I chose to support her not because it was convenient, but because staying silent in the face of wrongdoing would have gone against my integrity and conscience,” Mosiria said.

He warned against the culture of online shaming, noting that public pressure and cyberbullying can have devastating consequences if left unchecked.

Mosiria further questioned why society often waits for tragedy before taking wrongdoing seriously, urging Kenyans to reflect on how quickly victims are judged instead of protected.

He emphasized that Naipei is a mother, a Kenyan citizen, and a human being deserving of dignity and justice under the law.

The issue has since taken a legal turn. Reports indicate that James Opande, the man accused of recording and sharing the video, was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while allegedly attempting to travel to the United States, where he is said to reside.

His arrest has intensified public debate around consent, digital privacy, and accountability in the age of social media.

Mosiria was also critical of those defending the alleged wrongdoing in the name of loyalty, insisting that moral responsibility should not be selective. “Wrong is wrong, no matter who commits it,” he said, adding that silence only empowers abusers.

Quoting scripture from John 8:7, Mosiria called for restraint, empathy, and fairness, reminding the public that no one is without fault. He concluded by stating that even those accused of serious crimes deserve a fair hearing—while victims equally deserve protection and justice.

As investigations continue, the case has reignited national conversations about cybercrime, consent, and how Kenyan society treats victims of privacy violations. For Mosiria, however, the issue remains simple: standing for what is right, even when it is unpopular.
