Kodong Klan has officially withdrawn from performing at the Tukutane Gabzy X Asake event, citing what they described as repeated disrespect and unacceptable treatment of their artist and team.

In a statement released on the day of the event, the collective announced that they would not be taking the stage, citing challenges that arose during sound check earlier in the evening.

According to Kodong Klan, their team faced interference from another performer’s entourage, coupled with a lack of timely intervention from the event organizers.

The statement further alleges that several key commitments agreed upon before contracts were signed were either ignored or altered without consultation. Despite making multiple attempts to address and resolve the issues amicably, Kodong Klan says their concerns were not treated with the seriousness they deserved.

“Respect for the art, the people behind it, and the work required to deliver excellence is non-negotiable for us,” the statement read, adding that performing under the prevailing conditions would have implied acceptance of conduct they deem unacceptable.

The group emphasized that the decision was made to protect the artist, the team, and the integrity of their craft. While acknowledging fans who had been looking forward to the performance, Kodong Klan maintained that the withdrawal, though difficult, was the right course of action.

“This was not a light decision,” the statement concluded. “Respect is not optional.”

Event organizers are yet to issue a public response regarding the claims raised by Kodong Klan.
