Political Activist Morara Kebaso has broken his silence as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) goes after his millions.
Morara is being accused of failing to pay taxes by KRA for the past three years when he made at least Sh186 million in his five companies.
The five listed Companies by KRA include; Morara Home Furniture, Igrow Digital Enterprise, Luku Fashion, and Backtent Security Limited.
In a letter to Morara, the taxman claims that the activist has made at least Sh186 million in income from the aforementioned entities but has either not filed nil returns or has completely evaded the requirement during the inquiry period.

Furthermore, KRA has highlighted at least three bank accounts that the activist uses to manage commercial transactions, the majority of which involve real estate, furnishings, and interior fittings.
According to the KRA’s calculations, Morara owes Sh27 million in unpaid taxes.
Furthermore, the authority has listed four automobiles, a motorcycle, and a tuk-tuk, allegedly owned by the activist, even though he files no taxes each year.
KRA has since called Morara to Times Towers for an explanation on next Monday, January 13, 2025.
“You are hereby requested to avail for examination copies of the entities’ records, books of accounts, and any other documents, including copies of the general ledger, asset register, invoices, purchases, and sales ledgers, payroll records, directors accounts, debtors and creditors ledgers, and bank statements for both companies and the directors,” KRA’s letter to Morara says.

Morara Responds
However, in a quick rejoinder, Morara has distanced himself from the allegations saying they are politically motivated.
“Tax matters are private and confidential. I don’t know why mine is being investigated in the media. I have always been ready and willing to lawfully pay all taxes.
State agencies should not be weaponized to silence voices of truth and accountability,” Morara said.
He added that the said investigation is a clear attempt to push him to his knees so that he can agree to collaborate with corrupt leaders.
“This is a clear attempt to push me to my knees so that I agree to collaborate with corrupt leaders in the mismanagement of our country
Kenyans are very wise they can differentiate a genuine tax investigation and a political witch-hunt. I will continue to speak truth to power without fear,” Morara Kebaso said.

He also alleged that he doesn’t own Igrow Digital Enterprise – one of the companies listed in his name.
“For the record I do not own Igrow Digital Enterprise. It is a youth group that we registered as schoolmates in 2014 when we were in the university. The intention of the youth group was to do the business of breeding dogs i.e German Shepherd, Springer Spaniel, and Japanese Spitz. We were to train and sell the dogs. The business never started because we did not get the capital to start. We hoped to get money from the government through the Youth Enterprise Fund but never got,” Morara said.
