Kenyan music group Matata expressed disappointment after their trending song “Mpishi,” featuring Bien-Aime, was removed from YouTube.
In a statement, the group said that a malicious person reported their song to YouTube management with a copyright strike which is baseless.
“This week, our lyric video for Mpishi got hit with a copyright claim – and yeah, it’s BS. False. Malicious. Hurtful. Sabotage.
This wasn’t just a drop. It was a moment. We made this song in Kenya with Bien & the amazing producer WuodOmollo. Then flew to London-shot a music video. For you. For us. For the culture,” they said in part.

The group mentioned that they were preparing to drop the official music video to the song before the unfortunate incident happened.
“Then, just as we were preparing to drop the music video… our song was taken down. Not because we broke the rules – but because someone chose to take advantage of the loopholes and easy systems on YouTube. They submitted a claim without any legitimate reason.
And honestly? The hardest part: it came from a fellow Kenyan. Trying to blackmail, extort, and reap from where they didn’t plant – looking for a quick payday. But we say this clearly: NO!,” they added.
Matata added that they are trying to sort out the issue so that the so g can be reinstated on YouTube before they drop the video.

“We’re sorting it. It’s being handled. But let’s be clear – this is not a setback. This is proof that our sound is LOUD. Loud enough to shake those who wish we stayed quiet.
Na life iki kupa lemons? You already know. We squeeze. We serve. We move. Artists go through this too often. One claim, one system. and boom-years of work gone in a second,” the statement further explained.
“But Matata? We’re not built to fold. Hakuna cha reverse tukisha kanyaga scene. Our legal team is on it, but spiritually? We already won. Because you’re with us. And together, we’re louder than any takedown.
Keep streaming. Keep sharing. Let them see what unity looks like. Love and respect always. Matata,”.
The song was pulled down at a time when it had already accumulated over 1 million views in just two weeks after being uploaded on the streaming platform.
