Moses Kuria, a prominent figure in President William Ruto’s administration, has officially resigned from government.

In a statement issued Monday evening, Kuria confirmed that he had met with President Ruto, who accepted his decision to step down from public service.

“This evening I met my boss and my friend President William Ruto. The President has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” Kuria announced.

The former Cabinet Secretary expressed gratitude to President Ruto for the opportunity to serve in various capacities over the past three years.

He detailed his roles, highlighting his journey through the ranks of the Kenya Kwanza government.

“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months, Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months, and Senior Economic Advisor for the last 10 months,” he said.

Kuria also took pride in his contribution to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which he said he co-designed with President Ruto as part of the 2022 election campaign platform.

“As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda which I designed together with the President as our 2022 Electoral Platform,” Kuria added, signing off with a patriotic note: “Long Live Kenya.”

Moses Kuria was appointed to President Ruto’s first Cabinet in October 2022, shortly after the Kenya Kwanza coalition clinched victory in the August General Election.

He was named Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, where he served for 11 months before being moved in a reshuffle.

In October 2023, Kuria was reassigned to the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management, a docket created to spearhead the government’s service delivery benchmarks and performance contracting.

Nine months later, he transitioned into the role of Senior Advisor to the President on Economic Affairs, a position he held until his resignation.

Before joining the Cabinet, Kuria served as the Member of Parliament for Gatundu South from 2014 to 2022.

He was known for his outspoken style and firm support for President Ruto, especially during the heated campaigns leading up to the 2022 General Election.

His transformation from firebrand legislator to government technocrat marked a significant shift in his political career.

With his resignation, Kuria now steps away from public office, indicating plans to “pursue personal interests.” While he did not elaborate further, speculation is likely to follow about his next political or private-sector move.
