President William Ruto has promised Harambee Stars players a hefty cash reward of Sh2.5 million each if they beat Zambia in their final Group A match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday.

The national team has been in fine form, winning two matches and drawing one in the group stage so far. Their impressive run has already earned them Sh2.5 million in rewards – Sh1 million for each of their two victories and Sh500,000 for the draw. A win over Zambia would push that figure significantly higher.

Speaking during a meeting with the team to celebrate their recent triumph over Morocco and their historic qualification for the CHAN knockout stages, President Ruto praised the players for uniting the country through football.

“Unity has always propelled us forward. We must never allow negativity, failure, or doubt to prevent us from reaching our full potential. If we believe in ourselves and refuse to let division or hate enter the equation, Kenya can become the great nation we all dream of,” he said.

The President hailed the team’s fighting spirit and resilience, noting that their performance has ignited national pride and inspired hope.

“The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. They have brought the country together, and we are all witnessing the success it is bringing to the nation. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win CHAN because it’s within close reach,” he added.

Ruto revealed that beyond the Zambia match, there are more rewards on the horizon. If the team wins their quarter-final fixture, each player will receive an additional Sh1 million and a fully furnished two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.

The incentive comes at a crucial time, with the Zambia match set to determine the team’s seeding for the knockout stage and potentially give them a psychological edge heading into the quarter-finals.

Harambee Stars coach and players welcomed the pledge, saying it would further motivate them to push for victory. The President’s visit and personal encouragement are also seen as a major morale boost ahead of Sunday’s decisive game.

Kenya is now just three wins away from making history by securing their first-ever CHAN title, and the promised rewards could be the extra fuel needed to get them over the line.
