Sad! Singer Mariah Carey’s mother and sister die on the same day

American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey is in mourning following the untimely demise of her mother and Sister.

In an update shared on her socials, Carey revealed that her mother Patricia, and sister Alison died on the same day – Sunday.

“My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend.

Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed to have spent the last week with my mother before she passed,” read part of her statement shared on Instagram.

The award-winning singer went on to thank her fans and friends for their support and respect as she dealt with the tragic loss.

“I appreciate everyone’s love, support, and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” the singer said.

The singer also noted that she felt blessed to have spent the last week with her mom before she passed away.

Mariah further asked her fans to accord her privacy as she mourns her beloved family members.

Despite making it public that she had lost two family members, Carey did not reveal the cause of death.

Her mother who was a former singer and vocal coach of Irish-American descent passed away at the age of 87.

In her 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the five-time Grammy Award-winning singer described her tumultuous relationship with her mother as causing her “so much pain and confusion”.

Carey, 55, stated that competition had come between them. Profession-related envy “comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful”, according to her.

She stated that she had always attributed her mother with introducing her to music.
Carey’s relationship with her older sister, Alison, 63, was similarly complicated.

Alfred, the singer’s father, died of cancer in 2002 when he was 72.

Carey is regarded as one of the world’s most successful vocalists.
